What is Lagos Life?

Lagos Life is a life-simulation game that runs entirely in your web browser at lagoslife.app. You create a character, get randomly dealt one of two starting classes, a privileged Nepo Baby or a loan-carrying Lapo Baby, and then live out a Lagos story: find work, earn virtual naira, pay weekly rent, eat, sleep, study at UNILAG, date, start businesses, vote in the weekly governor election, and climb the game's Forbes rich list.

What made it explode on TikTok and X is how local it feels. The map recreates real Lagos spots (Balogun Market, Elegushi Beach, Amala Shitta, Quilox nightclub), the economy runs on danfo fares and Saturday rent deadlines, and NEPA power cuts are a survival mechanic. It has since expanded beyond Lagos to Port Harcourt and Abuja, with coaches from ₦20,000 and flights from ₦121,000 between cities.

Under the hood, the daily loop runs on real systems. Energy, hunger and health bars gate how much you can work; rent lands on a weekly clock; and some map tasks cool down on real-world time (market loader runs lock for about 20 real minutes, player-reported). Doing things in the game ranks up a skills system that unlocks better gear (the ~₦18,000 home laptop, ring lights) and better gigs. There's even a crime layer: hacking can pay out millions but risks jail time and police “heat” (player-reported). And it's social infrastructure too: weekly elections run at local government, senator and president level, all across three cities: Lagos, Port Harcourt and Abuja.

How to play: the 9-step summary

New to the game? This is the whole loop in nine moves. Each one is expanded in the full how-to-play walkthrough.

  1. Open the game in your browser

Go to lagoslife.app, no download, no app store. Works best in Chrome on Android or Safari on iPhone.

  2. Create your account: and bind an email

Sign up, then immediately link an email. Players who skip this and lose their password cannot recover the account.

  3. Build your character

Customise your look, pick 2 personality traits and a lifetime dream like “Oga at the Top” or “Lekki Landlord”.

  4. Take your birth lottery: Nepo or Lapo

Random and permanent. Nepo = the comfortable start; Lapo = the microfinance start, less money and a debt. Strategies differ for each.

  5. Learn the map

Drag to explore, tap a place, choose transport (danfo is cheapest), tap Go. Every location has opening hours.

  6. Get a job and work shifts

Multiple career paths, banking, tech, entertainment and more, each with room to level up. Player-reported figures put entry shifts near ₦6,600 and the very top around ₦99,000.

  7. Survive the weekly clock

Rent arrives on a weekly clock (players report Saturdays) and business payouts land daily (players report 6 PM). Plan your week around both.

  8. Manage hunger, energy and health

Street food keeps you alive cheap; hospitals fix health; sleep restores energy. Ignore them and you stop earning.

  9. Scale up: business, land, Forbes

Reinvest into side gigs, a kiosk business (from ₦150,000), a trailer, or one of 6 land plots, then chase the Forbes list.

FAQ

What is Lagos Life?

A free, browser-based life simulation game set in a virtual Lagos, think The Sims, but with danfo buses, Saturday rent, NEPA outages and Nigerian slang. Created by UK-based Nigerian developer Shalom Rayhamen, launched 1 October 2026, 2M+ players in the first week.

Is Lagos Life free?

Yes, free to start and free to play in your browser, no download. There's an optional real-money wallet top-up that buys in-game naira, but the exchange is one-way and nothing in the game requires paying.

Do I need to download an app?

No. The official game lives at lagoslife.app in any modern browser. There is no official APK or App Store listing, anything calling itself a “Lagos Life APK” is fake and risky. See App & Login Help.

Can you withdraw Lagos Life money?

No. In-game naira has no real-world value and there is no cash-out. Every “converter”, “withdrawal agent” or resale offer is a scam, full explanation on the withdraw page.

Nepo vs Lapo: which is better?

You don't choose, it's a once-per-account random draw. Nepo is the comfortable start (players report ~₦95k cash); Lapo is the microfinance start with less and a debt (players report ~₦72k). The comeback is very doable, see the walkthrough.

Is it on Roblox or Steam?

Neither. It's an independent browser game, not a Roblox experience and not on Steam.

Are there cheat codes?

No official codes exist. “Cheats” in this game means strategy: cheap housing, bargaining, transport tricks and business timing. Our cheats page covers the real ones, and the fake hacks that can cost you your account.

Why is everyone talking about Forbes?

The game keeps an internal rich list players call the Forbes list, checkable from the in-game phone menu. Rank is wealth-based, it pays no prizes, and climbing it is the endgame most players organize their strategy around. Money strategy lives in the money guide.
